SSM Objectives

1. Free Cataract surgery with Intra Ocular Lens implantation for persons Below Poverty Line (BPL)
2. Conduct outreach programmes in the rural areas for creating awareness about common eye diseases that can lead to blindness viz. Cataract, Glaucoma and Diabetic Retinopathy.
3. School screening programme, a project for vision testing in primary school children
4. Conducting Diabetic Retinopathy awareness screening camps and awareness sessions.
5. Support running of charitable dispensaries, eye hospitals, child welfare centres, old age homes for providing medical relief to the economically weaker section and suffering humanity
6. Establishment of a centre for rehabilitation of visually handicapped
7. Provide a fully equipped Mobile Eye Unit to go the villages and remote areas for a comprehensive eye examination
8. Encourage “donate your eyes” campaign
9. Encourage and extend financial help for Primary, Secondary and Higher Education including technical and medical education
10. To provide medical relief to economically weaker section of society
11. SSM Oration Award to honour an eminent Ophthalmologist, Medical Teacher or a Medical Scientist to acknowledge their contribution in the development and progress of Ophthalmology and allied sciences
